If the great and the good are looking for a truly elegant, glamorous and exciting event to attend this year, then they need look no further than the world renowned “Il Ballo del Doge.” This spectacular masked ball has been held annually during the Carnival in Venice since 1994, with this year’s ball taking place on 18th February. The event will be hosted in a beautiful 15th Century palace set right on the iconic Grand Canal. The very exclusive guest list includes anyone who’s anyone in Venetian society, as well as international celebrities, business leaders and foreign royals and dignitaries.
The ball takes the form of a traditional 18th Century Venetian masked ball, with a strict dress code of masks and period costume. Each year the organisers select a theme for the ball, which then inspires everything from the décor to the entertainment. This year’s theme is “queensessence” and the festivities are dedicated to “all women who are Queens at heart, and the men who know how to cherish them.”
Being passionate about masks as we are here at Mask Heaven, we can’t wait to see all the photos of the enchanting masks and costumes from this year’s ball. I wonder if any of our beautiful, hand made Venetian Masks will be making an appearance this year?
